MRI
What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging?
MRI is a very advance in medical imaging. Advanced Imaging is the first imaging center in Redding to offer the new Siemens 3T Magnetom Trio. It allows physicians to see inside the human body with remarkable detail. MRI does not use X-rays to create images. Instead, it combines magnetic fields with radio waves to produce detailed images of internal body structures. Tesla (T) is the unit of measurement quantifying the strength of a magnetic field. Our scanner generates a magnetic field that is twice the strength of 1.5 Tesla machines. The magnetic field produced by our 3T Magneton Trio MRI scanner creates images with exceptional anatomic detail. The increased image clarity revealed by 3T is particularly beneficial for pathological conditions involving the brain, spine, and musculoskeletal system. Doctors use MRI to examine “soft” tissue such as muscle, nerves, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, vertebral discs and various internal organs.
What happens during an MRI?
Although MRI is an advanced medical technique, the exam itself is relatively easy and comfortable for most people. You will be asked to lie on a table. A device called an imaging coil will be placed over or under you. When you are comfortably positioned, the table will move into the magnet. From the control area, the technologist will stay in constant contact with you, both visually and through an intercom.
As the exam begins you will hear a variety of muffled thumping or clicking sounds. These sounds are normal during the exam and should not be cause for concern. Other than the muted sounds you will hear, MRI produces no bodily sensations. An MRI examination can be completed in 15-30 minutes.
The 3T MRI is extremely efficient. Utilizing shorter scan times, the 3T machine maximizes patient comfort without compromising quality. The superb reliability of high-field MRI allows our board certified radiologists to confidently differentiate between benign and potentially dangerous medical conditions. This allows your health-care team to provide you with earlier diagnosis and treatment, leading to more positive outcomes.

- Your insurance card including your ID number and group number and
- Your drivers license or ID. We will make a photo copy of both.
- Please bring any outside films that might pertain to the scan being done. This will help the Radiologist in reading your scan.
